1400 Fifth Avenue

New York, NY

This mixed-use complex includes 128 residential condominium units in both an eight story building along Fifth Avenue and West 116th Street and four story townhouses along West 115th Street. The first floor is devoted to commercial and tenant use. Billed as Harlem's first affordable 'green' and 'smart' building, more than 60 percent of the building's materials are either recyclable or renewable and the building consumes 25 percent less energy than per the New York State Energy Code.

The building uses a geothermal heating/cooling system with heat pumps (wells are located beneath the courtyard garden). Interior apartments are pre-wired for communications and technology including fiber optics.

The designs of the lobby, the railings and the exterior light fixtures all reference West African motifs and images.
